Resources for Therapists

The Coping Skills Groups are designed to be an augment to ongoing individual, marital, or family therapy. Your client’s participation in a Coping Skills Group can help therapy move along more quickly. It also gives your clients specific things to do when they are at risk of self-harm, suicide, substance use, and other risky behaviors.

Please open this document on the Dialectical Behavior Therapy Coping Skills. Enclosed is information on which of the DBT Coping Skills can help to correct various difficulties, a summary of the skills taught, and helpful hints for assisting your clients in learning and using the skills. A more thorough description of the DBT Coping Skills can be found in Dr. Marsha Linehan’s "The Skills Training Manual for Treating Borderline Personality Disorder".
